Hello!
I'm Jeff.
I started the Revit Kid mainly to help my peers. I remember when I first began learning Revit there were very few online resources to help someone learn it. There was also a limited amount of video style tutorials. I bought books and tried learning that way but it just wasn't the way I learned. So I created this website to teach you about Revit and BIM abroad the way I wish I was taught... Through easy to follow, and to the point, video tutorials.
I am extremely grateful that you are interested in Revit and Building Information Modeling and have chosen to visit my channel in search of that information. Whether you are a student, a professional, or both, I hope the site can offer value to your everyday life.
I am a licensed architect and have worked in the field for over ten years now. When I began studying architecture in High School I was immediately drawn to the convergence of technology, design, and practice.

well done Jeff and Tyler 😉

very useful topic and thanks for sharing
Thanks for tuning in!
I was waiting for this Jeff 😅😅😅😅😅😅 Thank you again, as always. Amazing
Cheers!!!
I have "recap photo" student version, I do not have the option to export as "rcs" and how can I import it in another way?
With bimbox being mainly marketed towards companies is there a pc that you’d recommend for college students?
Depends on your budget… would be the best specs you can get on your budget 🤷🏻♂️ …
Great vid Jeff, and you can go from type parameter into instance and vice versa with nested families - sometimes is quite useful. Bonus tip - in your example with a bathtub and a faucet, most likely I would make it Shared so it could be loaded into other bathtubs and update multiple families in one go rather than loading individually. That is where being instance material parameter comes into play , to be managed via main family or project. Cheers
Cheers! Great points!
Thanks for showing this - should be helpful for a lot of folks. Ran into this exact issue on a core/shell project recently - believe we ended up doing the "unload" workaround - never considered the link order! Reminds me of "filter" hierarchy - highest filter wins!
Weird, right?!
45:28 its so hard to see you guys struggle like this
Guy's i use revit purely for electrical planning. Im planning to use my channel for this specific reason 6:49 Can we collaborate for a better reach?
Hi bro,why in my BOM that I extracted to excel the total of length is not accurate?after i check it shown length from the centre line, what i miss it?
Check the extension location (the blue dot)
@@TheRevitKid blue dot is on center line, but i need keep as it is,because it will be use for SACS calculation
@@galvanes9500 My guess is it is calculating total length to the blue dot... just a guess.
THANK YOU. Great and more than helpful video. God bless those two little cuties...
Cheers!
The cutoff level can be used in Nepali style temples where the roof hangs over other. images.app.goo.gl/vmzq46Jf4yCTGGep7
well that was batshit crazy ... who knew!!!
Right!?
Thank you very much, great tip, we are always learning in revit
Always learning for sure!!
Can't you just TAB the models you want to tag?
Did you try that yourself?
@@TheRevitKid going by memory it may just work but I'm a bit lazy to test it out right now
My thought too, but I see now that my comment didn't post. Instinctively I think it should work but if you have to place lots of tags then unloading is certainly a nice workaround to be aware of 👍
So did it work? By tabing?
Rooms should be used for rooms and Areas for everything else. I would ask the Core-Shell guys to use an Area. Another option is to hide the Core-Shell Room with V/G or filters. Next use 'Tag All' as it will only tag the visible Rooms.
I don’t disagree … but, now you have a solution if they tie you to buzz off 🤣
Can you turn room bounding off the Shell & Core model so it won't tag the rooms?
Nope! remember this is a room IN the core shell.
How about using the temporary hide?
Tried it. Doesn't work!
Why not try making the core shell model not room bounding?
Nope! The room IS in the core and shell, and their are rooms in the fitout.
Very useful!! 🙌 🎉
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO CREATE GLASS BRICK WALL IN REVIT?
31:56 NO ONE EVER LOOKS AT THE XML!!!! because it is JUNK
100% Agree!
love the thinking - agile, lean, whatever you want to call it. Gramps calls it working smart.
Cheers!
i love watching these at 1.5 speed - -you guys are brilliant, but at 1.5x you're genius!!!!
Haha my mind would explode doing it live at 1.5!!!
The "Count New" step is unneccesary. Simply by changing the format to "Calculate totals" works. It's a built in function that will multiply by "Count". In this example make a new calculated parameter field "Total Cost". Set that formula to Cost. Set formatting to "Calculate totals".
This helped me so much with how to make structure/construction plans in revit for my final project. Thank you!!
Did they fix the pdf button not being linked to build cloud file system?
Why wouldnt you always make a shared parameter?
Highly reccomend TonicDM. It helps track and have a copy of your correspondence for people who jump into the project a different points. Excellent for CA.
1:56 : BRUTALIST building, not BRUTAL... Thank you.
Another excellent show. Please publish the links mentioned. Very much appreciate your work. Thank you.
Cheers, links are in description.
short. and to the point unlike revit
Great session guys! As a smaller firm, we also started simple with Revit to at least get started, and over time have added to and improved our families and processes - don't have to build Rome in a day, for sure. Great points!
Cheers!!!
You are the best!!
Hello!
A filter could be utilized to make the annotations color, that maybe more helpful than modifying the family itself.
I spent over 2 hours trying to figure out how to "load in a hat channel" and still don't have a way to represent corrugated sheet metal in revit :( it's unfortunate bc this seems to be one of the better ways to accomplish this since beams systems can be place on a plane
Can I get this model please?
hi do you provide tutor for this software
I wrote a gpt connector which did things for unity, I couldn't decide how gpt could help if we connected to BIM/Revit. Excited I didn't have to figure it out!😂
well done!
Cheers!
Super sick!
insane!
Thanks man. It was informative and positive talk. Wish you Revit 2026 will contain more satisfying feature. looking forward for more videos in your channel
Cheers!
Appreciate it From Iran🙏🏻
“It’s just clunky right now” is a kind interpretation of Autodesk’s failure to provide real value to its design team customers. For a company that grosses some $5 billion a year, I would expect a lot more. That Autodesk provides useless features in the form of “updates,” splits up services and then charges separately for them (BIM Collaborate Pro, anyone?), and jokes about how powerless it is to provide meaningful solutions to its customers speaks to its incredible power and monopoly in the industry. I am embarrassed when I have to point out its shortcomings to senior and junior employees alike, and cannot in good conscience defend its marketing practices and software-not to design teams anyways. You need to step it up, Autodesk. Stop making jokes and start providing value commensurate to your prices.
Thanks 👍

Revit, as a modeling tool for custom 3D objects (couch, chair, other entourage), is in a stone age. While it is possible to model intricate 3D objects in a free software, even web-based ones, like OnShape, Revit didn't change it's approach since V.1: extrusion, blend, revolve, sweep, sweep blend... that's all Revit got? - sad, borderline pathetic. Am I missing something?
That's because we aren't using Revit to design chairs and couches... we are designing and constructing BUILDINGS! Sure, if I was a chair designer I would NOT use Revit as my primary modeling tool... That's not what it was made for.
It wasn't meant for civil, it wasn't meant for MEP, it wasn't meant for furniture, etc. It is now. Revit has a built in collection of furniture, kitchen equipment, and plumbing fixture. It's not a big deal to add 2-3 more tools that would allow for more organic shapes. And I'm not talking about designing furniture by the way, I'm talking about modeling an approximation for presentation purposes. All in saying is that it looks like Revit developers... no scratch that... Revit maintainers got lazy after they got monetary (licenses) incentives to not care.
@@TheRevitKid You do buildings, sure but many of us are using Revit for civil structures (bridges, tunnels, transition structures, and more much more). Steel reinforced concrete cast in-place bridge abutments are complex geometrically and do cause problems when all we have is extrusion, blend, revolve, sweep, swept blend. I like the show!
26:45 It might be handy to be able to cut a TopoSolid with a roof because of the Roof slopes. Some folks are using roofs to model the excavation works (upside-down roofs). Once you know the soil properties you define the maximum slope without extra retaining walls and that is how you model the slope on the edge. (an upside-down trapezoidal prism cutting the toposolid)
Good shout! Makes sense !!
